The Charter for Women Steering Group was constituted in 2004 by a group of like-minded women who were all trade union activists.

AIMS

The aims of the Steering Group are to work and campaign for full social, economic, legal, political and cultural independence for women and equality for women irrespective of age, disability, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, philosophical belief or sexual orientation. The Charter has sections on women at work, in the labour movement and in society.

We aim to work across the labour and women’s movements to publicise the Charter, engage in debate, challenge bad practise, oppose any oppression of women and children and to encourage organisations to affiliate to the Charter and support the activity of the Steering Group through the nomination and participation of delegates.

Through this work we seek to bring about positive and progressive change for women and recognition of the inequality and oppression that women still face at home, at work and in wider society.

ETHOS

The Steering Committee is a woman centred and woman empathic body that works to promote the aims of the Charter in a democratic and coherent manner and to give a voice to women that may not have other forums in which to raise their concerns.C
